In honor of tomorrow's planned National Opt-Out Day, we offer you this year's hottest holiday gift: the TSA bumper sticker. Warning: It's probably best not to post these on your luggage. We all know how the TSA feels about bumper stickers.

Richard Wilkinson's Process Gifs

Richard Wilkinson's Process Gifs: "

double2process2-600.gif Mesmerizing isn’t it? The most amazing things come through from the CIA - just discovered this in my email from their newsletter! The beauty and simplicity of these gifs are sucking me in tonight. So so beautiful, and Richard Wilkinson basically captures his work flow in photoshop - saving them into high res animated gifs you can view on his blog! It’s as if you’re watching the image paint itself… yes, it’s nearly 3am, and you’ll see why i’ve gone quiet the last few days as i’ve been obsessively working on the giveaways and gift guides launching this week… but for now… aren’t these incredible? These beautiful illustrations were for a 5 page spread for The Telegraph Magazine’s ‘Luxury’ supplement. See a few more of my favorites and a peek at the spread on the next page…

The Most Beautiful Images On Google Street View

The Most Beautiful Images On Google Street View: "

Since 2007 Google Street View, in an effort to “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful” has visually captured the human experience gamut from pranks, to nudity, to crimes to death. While it’s had its share of issues, the Google Maps project is one of the greatest juxtapositions of technology and imagery our culture has produced.

In homage to this, artist Jon Rafman has collected screen captures from Google Street View blogs and his own discoveries and posted them on the amazing The Nine Eyes Of Google Street View Tumblr. Rafman describes the inspiration behind the two year old project.

“The world captured by Google appears to be more truthful and more transparent because of the weight accorded to external reality, the perception of a neutral, unbiased recording, and even the vastness of the project. With its supposedly neutral gaze, the Street View photography had a spontaneous quality unspoiled by the sensitivities or agendas of a human photographer.”

In his collection, Rafman expresses the spontaneity and range (anything from Polar Bears to prostitutes) that makes the objective Street View images so intriguing. The grittiness of the subject matter captured by Google’s nine directional cameras is even more poignant when viewed in relation to other photos from all over the world.

This technology isn’t intended to be art, which makes it even more compelling.

Some of my favorite images, above and below.

Who You Are and What They Say

Who You Are and What They Say: "

If you are confident, they will say you are arrogant.

If you are deliberate, they will say you are too sure of yourself.

If you have a sense of purpose, they will say you are self-absorbed.

If you know who you are, they will ask, “Who are you, anyway?”

If you believe in kindness and compassion, they will say you are naïve.

If you are a dreamer, they will say “join the real world.”

If you are a rebel, they will try to shut you down.

The instructions include:

rein it in

slow it down

wait it out

pull it back

take your time

play it safe

But you will know:

They are envious because they want what you have.

They are afraid of change even as they crave it.

They are projecting their own regret into resentment of you.

It’s not all bad news: some of them will sort themselves out and end up joining you. Because you are a good person and have had plenty of false starts of your own, you’ll understand and welcome them warmly. We’ve missed you! you’ll say. It’s about time you made it.

As for the others, well, you will remember what Gandhi said:

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Web Designers vs. Web Developers (Infographic)

Web Designers vs. Web Developers (Infographic): "

Let’s be honest. Being a web developer or a web designer doesn’t exactly give you an edge with the pretty girls (or guys) at your local pickup bar. If you were a part-time firefighter or investment banker, maybe. Nevertheless, the feud continues between web designers and web developers over which profession is the true calling. Like the yin and yang, these two are in constant battle to prove their dominance over the other, even when they work closely together.

Here is an infographic of the differences between web designers and web developers.
